According to Pocketlint , “ multiple sources familiar with the matter ” have confirmed Windows Phone 7 will launch officially in New York on 11 October 2010. Pocketlint claims their unnamed sources were all senior figures within the industry that they know and trust. The Austrian DerStandard.at also report that Microsoft will be holding separate presentations in Germany on the same date, with handsets available on Orange in late October, T-Mobile from the 20th October, from 3 by the end of October, with the other carriers indicating they would also launch handset running the OS but unwilling to commit to the date due to NDAs

The Xbox Kinect controller will be Microsoft’s major hardware/platform release other than Windows Phone 7 this holiday. Just like the latter, critics have lambasted the effort as copy of the Wii motion gaming capabilities and inferior to the PlayStation Move due the lack of physical controllers. Recently Microsoft arranged a Windows Phone 7 event to showcase Applications developed for WP7 platform.Here is an interesting video of that event which has cool demos of new apps like Songbuzz, a social music app that allows users to share what they’re listening to, find out what their friends are listening to and discover new music,Sudoku 3D, Smiles – a really cute game with gorgeous graphics and great animations featuring several modes, from a full-on arcade mode to a more relaxed “zen mode”. Like every industry Apple enters, their new Apple TV is making waves, even if those so far are not very large. Microsoft has also responded, by showing they do in fact have a product to answer the challenge –Windows Embedded Standard 7. Windows Embedded Standard is based on Windows 7, and in the most recent revision comes with Windows Media Centre
